Ontario Petroleum Institute, London, Ontario

Objective: Manage the renewal of the Ontario Petroleum Institute (OPI) an industry association that represents the oil and natural gas exploration and production, hydrocarbon storage, and salt/solution mining industries in Ontario. Develop an industrial strategic plan to position the oil and natural gas exploration and production sector as a viable stakeholder in Ontario’s economy.

 

Role: Executive Director

Result: Established the OPI as the leading voice for the sector in Canada through re-structuring its governance model that enabled the Association to enhance its profile with governments stakeholders, partners and members, and to promote the industry throughout North America.

David Thompson Health Trust, Red Deer, Alberta

Objective: To establish the David Thompson Health Trust (Trust) as a leading-edge entity to provide communities in Alberta with professional experience to raise funds to support health care.


Role: Executive Director


Result: Led a review of the organization’s governance structure, a renewal of its strategic direction, and the implementation of Business Plan 2010 to engage local health care organizations to develop and build upon their fund-raising capacity to support sustainable health care systems.

David Tompson Health Trust
New Brunswick Salmon Growers’ Association, Saint John, New Brunswick

Objective: Reorganize the governance structure and operations of the New Brunswick Salmon Growers’ Association (NBSGA). Develop a sustainability plan to foster environmental responsibility and economic viability to the aquaculture sector in Atlantic Canada.


Role: Executive Director


Result: Implemented a policy-focused governance model, and introduced new management practices to improve operational efficiencies for the NBSGA. Led the development of the Atlantic Canada Salmon Farming Sustainability Plan to produce healthy, safe and affordable food from the salmon farming industry, the largest food producing sector in Atlantic Canada valued at $200 million and employing 4,000 people.

Ontario Gymnastic Federation


Objective: Re-structure the Ontario Gymnastic Federation to operate on business principles.


Role: Executive Director


Result: Enacted a business plan that: strategically marketed gymnastics in the areas of
fundraising, corporate development, media and community programs; enhanced its image and relationships with its stakeholders; improved operational practices; re-structured financial operations; designed a number of revenue generation programs to off-set substantial cutbacks in provincial government funding that included a province-wide lottery campaign.

Objective: Develop and manage a strategic communication plan to assist the District Health Council of Haliburton, Kawartha and Pine Ridge conduct the Lakeshore Hospital Re-structuring Study.


Role: Management Services


Result: Built a consensus that resulted in the formation of a joint Lakeshore Hospital Board and a recommendation for the construction of a new hospital.
 

Campbell Soup, Industrial Adjustment Committee

Objective: To implement an Industrial Adjustment Agreement between the Government of Canada, Government of Manitoba and the Campbell Soup Company in response to the closure of the Campbell Soup Company of Canada's processing and distribution operation for Western Canada located in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.


Role: Chairman


Result: An Industrial Adjustment Committee was formed comprised of members representing each level of government, company management and the employee organization. An industrial adjustment plan was structured, and programs were implemented that successfully assisted approximately 200 employees deal with the effects of the plant closure.

Campbell Soup
Portage-in-Motion Save the Base Campaign


Objective: To lead a lobbying campaign on behalf of the City and Rural Municipalities of
Portage la Prairie, Union of Manitoba Municipalities, Manitoba Chamber of Commerce, and the Province of Manitoba to respond to the Federal Government's closure of Canadian Forces Base Portage la Prairie.


Role: Co-Chairman

Result: The lobbying campaign succeeded in secuinge the economic future of the City and Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie with Manitoba gaining operating control of a valuable military base with the creation of Southport Aerospace saving 600 jobs.
